Long Talk With an Old Friend

Part of the city of Las Cruces, New Mexico
Becca and I got an early start this morning west of Tortugas Mountain and even then conditions were somewhat unpleasant for hiking; the humidity was sky high.  Clouds held the promise of rain, but we never got sprinkled on.  When we got back to the Sunset Area parking lot our pal Jimmy called out to us.  He and I talked for approximately thirty minutes, both of us lamenting the gun insanity rampant in our country; this in the wake of the Las Vegas massacre, of course.  We spoke about how we were becoming numb to the violence, and we both hoped we wouldn't become numb to the lunacy of our illustrious President Trump.
Things looked pretty good at the start

Clouds began rolling in from the south

The sky was pretty dynamic in the upper foothills

High humidity made rain seem likely

Back in the lower desert we were treated to a beautiful cloud display

Sun was trying to break through

Clouds were dense in one section of the Organ Mountains

Early morning hike on Mars

Sunlight ricocheting between clouds

I guess I took a lot of similar photos of clouds and mountains

At the base of the mountains lies the community of Talavera

Trailing Four O'Clocks

This and the next are almost the same

Foreground a little lighter

Yucca and the Robledo Mountains

There's the happy hiker

Let's get going
