Monday I've Got Friday on My Mind

High foothills just west of Tortugas Mountain
Becca and I did a slightly shorter hike west of Tortugas Mountain this morning.  There was only one truck in the Sunset Area parking lot when we got there.  During our entire trek we saw only two other people:  a guy hiking down the mountain road and another young man running full speed on that same road.  Saw one Desert Cottontail and one Black-tailed Jackrabbit, the latter moving at the speed of light.  It was quite chilly out there early on; I wore a Marmot PreCip jacket over a long-sleeve shirt and never took the outer layer off during the entire hike.
Heading into the lower desert

That's what I want to know

Along the outer loop road

What's that scent?

Road to the mountain

Get a move on

Castanet tree (really Soaptree Yucca pods)

Torrey Yucca and Ocotillo

No power to the people

Dried concrete, lava bomb or petrified cow flop?
