Three For the Near Side

Devil's Head and Hedgehog Cactus
Dr. K, Becca and I left early for a hike on the Sunset side of Tortugas Mountain this morning, and we were able to trek for a long while in the mountain's shadow.  We probably did two-thirds of the hike in the sun, though, but our early-bird scenario kept us from getting too hot.

Although the parking lot was noticeably crowded we only saw a few outdoor enthusiasts where we were, and only had an encounter with one mountain biker.  We did a little bushwhacking over to Becca's favorite shady spot in the sand and waited patiently while she had a good long lie-down.

We're headed for the high 90s today, but we were able to get in a nice hike before the blast-furnace temperature kicked in.
