Cloud-Climbing Rail Trail

All uncaptioned images:  scenes along the Cloud-Climbing Rail Trail
Dr. K and I drove up to Cloudcroft early this morning to hike the trail that leads to the Mexican Canyon trestle; it's usually a fairly heavily traveled trail, but we only ran into a few couples on our way back.

When we had nearly finished our trek--while standing at the overlook just off a blacktopped nature-walk path--a volunteer in a golf cart pulled over to chat.  The guy had his dog, Zoe, in the cart with him, and Zoe was a beautiful 2 1/2-year-old golden Chow Chow.  We all (except Zoe) talked for a good ten or fifteen minutes before the volunteer drove off.

The weather was absolutely perfect for hiking--sunny and cool with a steady chilling breeze.  Since the Cloud-Climbing Rail Trail is moderately difficult we got in some decent exercise this morning.  Afterward we drove over to Family Dollar and bought four gallons of water, black garbage bags, napkins and an American Classic plain pound cake.  I had two pieces with a cup of coffee after lunch; both Dr. K and I were surprised at how good the cake tasted.

Your photos do justice to the beauty of this trail, Packrat. I like the photos that show White Sands in the far distance. It was so interesting to see the ruins of part of the trestle and to imagine the trains going over it.
