All Around Tortugas

Northeast face of Tortugas Mountain
We started out at the Monte Vista parking area of the Tortugas Mountain Trail System, intending to hike two-thirds around the mountain before backtracking.  It was such a cool morning, though, we decided to circumnavigate the entire mountain.  Because it was Sunday we ran into quite a few people, including a group of four mountain bikers.  Referring the plethora of gun retorts from "hunters" in the area I jokingly said to the lead biker, "Didn't get shot?"  He said, "Not yet."  We had a laugh, but neither of us thought it was really funny.

Looking east--the way we came

The trail we came down, facing north

Looking up slope from the rock shelter (south side)

The Organ Mountains in the east

On the trail, north side of Tortugas

This little guy barked his displeasure at our presence
