So This is the Desert?

Searching for shade
It was 76 F when Becca and I left for our trek this morning.  As I'm posting this (1:53 p.m. Mountain Time) it's 102 F.  We're in a hot spell that looks to last through the week, with little relief in sight.  There's a vague chance of precipitation for the weekend, but it's really a slim-to-none deal, I'm sure.  Oddly enough--despite the heat and aridity--there have been more people out on the mountain than usual.  I'm sure it has to do with the end of the school year, and I'm certain people will feel less and less inclined to hike in the heat.

Dry, dusty road

It even looks hot

Can you make out the eye shadow on this White-Wing Dove?

Even wild hares have to groom themselves

Great photos of the jackrabbit and dove. I like the detail.

The blue eye shadow's faint, but I can see it on this glamorous white-winged dove!

Partly Cloudy with Wind and Sprinkles

Early light Intermittent clouds gave us a respite from bright sunshine during our morning trek; Dr. K, Willow and I appreciated the break.  ...
