Heading behind Tortugas Mountain |
Early sunlight paints the desert yellowish-green |
The trail drops steeply from here |
Becca is always eager to forge ahead |
I have to give her the "wait" command often |
The trail strikes right through this rugged area |
Desert Cottontail on a ridge near the rock shelter |
Familiar view from the outer loop road |
Three views of a Loggerhead Shrike (notice the sharp beak) |
It wears the mask of Zorro |
Loggerhead Shrikes are skillful hunters |
Far west of the Tortoise |
Pinacate Beetle (aka "stink beetle") on the move |
Moon and mountain |

I really like the photo of the moon over the mountain, Packrat.
Yeah, there's something about the moon and mountains, Dr. K.
The light is certainly different. It's giving the colors a deeper, richer hue than they had in the summer.
Another thing that's different, Scott, is the amount and sheer length of the grass out there. The abundant rain has really helped it grow, and my allergies are the worse for it.
