I expected a freeze last night here, Packrat, but it only got down to the mid-30s. We still haven't had a freeze, and up near the house, we haven't even had a killing frost (based on the still-green leaves of my basil plants in containers on the patio). It seems like your temperatures are a bit less moderate than ours--you get colder in the winter and (definitely) get hotter in the summer. Perhaps it's because we're within 100 miles of the ocean.
At least that cold wind produced some dynamic clouds.
So I guess that polar vortex didn't hit where you are, Scott. I thought it was going to reach your area. Yes, I'll bet the ocean has something of a moderating effect on your weather at this time of year.
Dr. K: Yes, got some good clouds out there.
