It's a good thing that the yucca provide at least a little shade.
I heard a feature on our local NPR station on Sunday debating the merits of giving dogs short haircuts in the summer. Some people (and vets) felt like it was a good idea, whereas other people (and vets) felt that the animals' fur protects the skin from sunburn and retains a layer of cooler air near the skin. I wonder if you have an opinion... The general consensus (from both the fur cutters and the au natural crowd) was that dogs should not be made to accompany their stupid owners out in the blazing sun in the summer, and that dogs' natural inclination to rest calmly in the shade was the best thing all around.
