New Camera

Cholla cactus in our yard
After years of carrying my trusty FujiFilm FinePix S700 (10X optical zoom) on my hikes I finally got around to buying a new bridge camera, the FujiFilm FinePix S8200 (with 40X optical zoom).  My S700 was still taking great photos, but I'd had to Super Glue the rubber grip several times already, and it looked as if another gluing was in the offing.  And I wanted a more powerful optical zoom capability, though most photographers will tell you that anything over 20X is wasted zoom because of stability and light issues.  Nevertheless, the camera was offered for a good price on Amazon, and I'd been wanting to get one for a few years (it was first released in 2013).  So I got the camera yesterday, and I was out with Becca this morning experimenting with my new toy.

Those close-up photos look sharper than the ones you would take with the old camera.

I liked the first image best (the square one) of the three that you took with different quality settings. Maybe it's the composition and lighting, but it's my favorite.

I agree, Dr. K. The new camera has a "super-macro" setting.

Thanks for the input, Scott.

Are you still super humid back there? Our atmosphere has been sopping the past few days.

Great photos!

Sunday and Monday were miserably humid here. Today (Tuesday), the humidity is supposed to decline; we'll see. There's no precipitation in our forecast, and temperatures are supposed to moderate to normal (mid- to upper 80s) for at least the next 7 days.

Hey, thanks, Liz! Hope you're well.

"Miserably humid" is all I need to hear in order to stay away from there until early fall.
