Second Spring

Up on the flank
The rain from last week is having a good effect on the desert, creating conditions conducive to abundant growth of flora.  The precipitation has encouraged the Strawberry Pitaya Hedgehog Cacti to bloom a second time all over the mountain, something I've rarely seen over the decades of hiking here in the northern Chihuahuan Desert.  The colorful blossoms are a real treat for the eyes; it's hard to tire of the fabulous (and large) flowers of the Pitaya Cactus.
