Cold, Cold Wind

Western flank of Tortugas Mountain
Even though it was 33F when we started off this morning--a temperature quite bearable when the sun shines brightly--it felt cold as hell out there today because of a strong, cold wind.  When we headed down the LDR-A arroyo my primary thought was "I'm going to cut this hike short."

By the time we entered the new arroyo, however, conditions had improved due to our location; the wind was blocked from us.  The same was true in both the left branch and the right, so we did our normal trek.

Neither Frio nor Willow seemed affected by the weather, and both would have preferred to stay out in the desert even longer than we did.

Lone cloud

Allthorn (Koberlinia spinosa)

Torrey Yuccas

The rest:  Frio and Willow
