Hump Hike

Contrails make an interesting pattern over Tortugas Mountain
Becca and I saw nobody in the desert west of Tortugas Mountain.  Once we got out of the shadow of the Tortoise the sun warmed us up quickly, forcing me to remove my windbreaker jacket.  I had to put it on again when we were back at the trailhead standing outside of the car talking to JC.  Well, I was talking to JC, and he was talking to me.  The two dogs--Becca and Shaque--were already in the back of their respective vehicles.  The wind had picked up, but it doesn't look as if it will be a windy day; and we're slated for a high of 64 F.

The contrails over Tortugas DO make an interesting image, Packrat. Almost looks like the aftermath of some sort of sci-fi battle scene.

Though it's sunny here in the northern Piedmont today, the temperature is only in the mid-30s and we have several inches of snow on the ground. However, the forecasters predict that each day henceforth will be a bit warmer with the possibility that we'll reach a record high 65 degrees on Sunday! Even if we don't break the record, the warm temperatures will spell the demise of most of the infernal white stuff on the ground.

You can see why settlers used the bare limbs of the ocotillos to build fences.
