Another Hunt

Out west of Tortugas
When Becca and I were nearly finished with our hike we came upon a Roadrunner hunting a morning snack of insects.  We stood for over five minutes watching the hunt.  The Roadrunner seemed unperturbed by our presence, which is surprising considering that Becca belongs to the same family as one of the Roadrunner's mortal enemies, the Coyote (Canis latrans).  But Becca was truly obedient, watching the cuckoo with interest, but not advancing toward it.

I love those photos of the roadrunner with the yellow flowers as the background.

Images 5 and 6 (un-captioned) are really great, especially with the yellow background. How do you know it's not Ms. Roadrunner?

Scott: It could well be Ms. Roadrunner since males and females look alike. The fact that this one was wearing a Speedo tipped me off.
