Near Miss

Down that single-track again
Last night we got a few sprinkles, but were surprised to discover from the 10:00 pm news that a huge cloudburst had happened just a mile or so north of us, creating driving hazards on Sonoma Ranch Road near Tortugas Mountain.  The major arroyo over there ran heavily, and fast-moving rainwater cut deep ruts into the surrounding desert.  There was some evidence of thunderstorm activity around Tortugas when Beccan and I went hiking this morning, but it seems the brunt of the downpour occurred slightly to the north of the mountain.

Scott: I was finally able to ID that cactus back in the "Rain Delay" post, with help from Wynn Anderson from UTEP's Centennial Garden: Coryphantha macromeris (Nipple Beehive Cactus).
