Not Much of Note

Up on the plateau
Becca and I had a long uneventful hike west of Tortugas Mountain this morning.  We crossed paths with two women hikers and two mountain bikers early on, but saw no one in the outback.  Took a photo of a hummingbird (out of focus), a Lesser Nighthawk (out of focus) and a Stingleaf flower (out of focus, too) so no pictures of critters or blossoms to share today.  There is a shot of somebody's pet rock, an interesting chunk of what looks like iron oxide covered by a type of sediment.

Looks like the inside of that rock would make some great paint pigment if ground up and admixed appropriately.

Also, with regard to your 3-inch spider of yesterday. Last evening, I passed the master bathroom and noticed one of our cats staring in the corner. "Peculiar," I thought. When I went to investigate, I found that the cat had cornered a 3-inch wolf spider. I quickly got a plastic container and rescued the beast, placing it outside the front door--and ruining the cat's playtime!

A 3-inch spider sounds pretty intimidating!

Packrat, I like the photo of the prickly pear pad. It reminds me how large that cactus can get.
