Swainsie's Back

1st 2:  down, but not out
Dr. K, Willow, Frio and I got a fairly early start on a morning hike today.  Just as we were turning onto the dirt road leading to the trailhead we saw the Basset people and their hounds at the right side of Tellbrook Road.  We saw them again later when we were descending LDR-A arroyo, and they were headed north along the ridge west of the Organ Mountains.

There were two other pairs of hikers out there as well, one pair ascending LDR to the north and the other ascending LDR-A to the south.  We encountered neither pair.

Best part of the outing was seeing Swainsie the Swainson's Hawk sitting on the yucca trunk on the ridge west of the mountains.  It certainly seems he likes that perch because we often see it there preening before flying off.  It's always backlit, though, so photographs often are not up to snuff.

Nice photos of your buddy the Swainson's Hawk. My favorite is the last one that you posted.
